The record

Nike. Six thousand people worked on top of systems we answered for.

The challenge

World headquarters: manufacturing, logistics, operations — and point-of-sale and revenue data across Nike, Nike Golf, Converse, and Cole Haan flowing through the data centers we ran. When those systems stall, they stall across brands.

What we ran

Lockheed Martin first sent us inside Nike. On campus, inside the operation: the air-unit manufacturing line; the CNC floors where test molds for new product were machined and measured against quality metrics before anything shipped overseas for mass production; the revenue-carrying systems behind the registers. From inside the Mia Hamm building, on a campus where Phil Knight still walked the halls.

What held

When it mattered, they held.

The number

6,000 — technical leadership for a workforce that size, with the revenue path through our systems. The floor answers the same question your floor does: did the thing that carries the money hold today?

For scale, cited: the Nike World Campus in that era — 16 buildings on 176 acres, “occupied by almost 6,000 employees,” with company revenue of $13.7 billion (Nike Form 10-K, 2005, SEC).
That’s the account. The architecture beneath it — the estate, the control planes, the intervention — is drawn end to end in the architecture edition of this record, one of six in the Enterprise Proof Portfolio.

First-hand: our figures, from our watch. We were in the room — examine any of them on the call.
